SHOPPING, MY PASSION

Green is the new black!

The negative effects of the fashion industry on the environment are numerous, starting with the production phase of textiles and continuing with the entire life cycle of products. In fact, the clothing and textile industry is the second largest polluter in the world, after the oil industry.

Therefore, the question that all those worried about the fate of the planet ask themselves is: what solutions do we have to make our wardrobe more sustainable?

  • Do not make clothing purchases under the impulse of the moment, but choose items that you really like and that you know you will keep for a long time.

  • Opt for quality clothing made of good materials that do not fade or degrade after a few washes.

  • Organize your wardrobe so you can actually see what's in your closet. This way, you can be more inventive when you combine your outfits and you will no longer feel the need to buy new things.

  • Avoid synthetic, micro-fiber fabrics that end up polluting the seas and oceans, and choose organic cotton or recycled fabrics.

  • If you don't wear an item, donate it and make someone else happy. If it can no longer be worn, then it can be recycled.

  • Do not give up clothes when they no longer fit you, but try to modify them!

  • Buy second hand or vintage clothes!

  • If you haven't worn a thing in two years, donate it.

  • Choose natural materials (linen, cotton, hemp).

  • Wash synthetic clothes in special bags.

  • Do not wash clothes every time you wear them.

  • Buy only the products you like 100%.

  • Take care of your clothes, ventilate them and read the washing and ironing instructions.

  • Choose recycled products: starting with phone cases, slippers, T-shirts, sportswear, there are a lot of manufacturers that use recycled materials (orange fiber, algae, PET).

  • Do not buy fakes. If you can't afford a product from a luxury brand, choose an affordable one, but don't be fooled by counterfeit products.

  • Choose timeless items that do not go out of style easily.

  • Before you decide to buy something, answer the following questions:

    • Does it fit my style?

    • How do you take care of it?

    • Can I combine it easily?

    • If it wouldn’t have been on sale, would I have still bought it?

    • Does it fit? (if it doesn't fit you now, it won't fit you later)

    • Wait one more night.

    • 30 wears challenge - will you wear this at least 30 times? If the answer is no, then you shouldn't buy it.

GOOD TO KNOW

  • • 20% of the world's wastewater, 10% of carbon emissions and huge amounts of waste dumped in landfills, these are the effects of the fashion industry on the environment.

  • • Once in the landfill, textiles, in the absence of sunlight and oxygen, decompose much more slowly, producing greenhouse gases. In addition, if incinerated, they pollute the air.

  • • 95% of textile waste can be reused, donated or recycled.

  • • The average duration of use of a garment is about 3 years, and 20% of the clothes in any lady's wardrobe are worn very little or not at all.

  • • It takes 800 liters of water to produce a single T-shirt.

  • • If actress Laura Dern could wear at the Oscar 2020 gala the same dress that she wore 25 years ago at another event, it's ok for you to repeat the outfits.

  • • If something costs a little, but you only wear it a few times - it costs a lot.

  • • Rule 333 - you can survive with 33 items of clothing in the closet for 3 months.
