Home is the central scene of your life and the place where most of the daily rituals take place: sleeping, washing, cooking, reading. From the moment you wake up in the morning and get out of bed, all your actions have an impact on the environment.

How to reduce your environmental impact when you stay at home?

  • Turn off the light when you leave the room or when you watch TV!

  • Open the blinds and let as much natural light into the house as possible!

  • Do not let water run while brushing your teeth!

  • Do not use the stove or hob at maximum power!

  • Set the air conditioning to a temperature at most 10 degrees lower than outside during the summer!

  • Set the boiler temperature to 20-22 ˚C in the cold season, and if you find it cool, put on a long-sleeved item of clothing!

  • Wear cool clothes in the summer instead of rushing to turn on the AC appliance!

  • Do not turn on the water at maximum when washing dishes or food!

  • Repair the faucet if it leaks!

  • Replace classic light bulbs with low energy ones!

  • Air-dry the laundry, don’t use the automatic dryer!

  • Collect waste selectively!

  • Unplug electrical and electronic equipment that you do not use! They often function as energy vampires.

  • Do not let the TV on if you do not watch it, use the automatic power off programming function.

  • Count the time spent daily in the shower so that you finish your shower in 5, maximum 10 minutes. Leave the pampering of a bath for the weekend.

  • Use washing programs at a low temperature (maximum 40 degrees).

  • If you are cold, dress thicker or cover yourself with a blanket, do not increase the temperature in the house.

  • Constantly ventilate the radiators!

  • Use rechargeable batteries!

  • Install a water filter and give up bottled water, which is a large singe-use plastic generator!

  • Buy biodegradable plastic garbage bags!

  • Choose beddings made of cotton or other natural fibers!

  • Even when turned off, many appliances, including chargers, continue to consume power. This seemingly small problem can equate to 8% of your home's annual electricity.

  • If you use LED or CFL light sources, do not turn them off if you leave the room for only 10 minutes or less. They use more energy starting and stopping than they use to run for that interval.

  • Ventilation and shading can help control indoor temperatures. Ventilation also helps to remove or dilute indoor pollutants. The introduction of outside air is an important factor in maintaining good air quality.

  • About 3 billion people still cook using solid fuels (wood, crop waste, coal, manure) and kerosene in open fires and inefficient stoves. These cooking practices produce high levels of air pollution in the household. In poorly ventilated homes, indoor smoke can be 100 times higher than acceptable levels for fine particles.
